About this site
Who we are
Compost Ready is an independent website about biodegradable, compostable and bio-based food packaging. We are not a packaging company, a certification body or a research institute, and we don't sell packaging.
The site is operated by YPack, a company based in Izola, Slovenia. Despite the similar name, YPack is not the YPACK research project and has no connection with the project's consortium or its partners.

How we write and source articles
Every factual statement on this site should be traceable to a source listed at the bottom of the page. We rely on, in roughly this order:
- EU law and official EU sources: EUR-Lex, the European Commission, EFSA and CORDIS;
- peer-reviewed research papers and review articles;
- standards bodies and recognised certification schemes, where we describe what a standard requires.
We don't copy text from these sources. We read them and explain them in our own words. Where the evidence is uncertain, or sources disagree, we say so rather than picking the more exciting version.
Regulations change, so we re-check dates and rules and update the "Updated" date on each page when we do. We don't do that everyday, so if you spot something out of date or wrong, please tell us. We correct errors openly.
How this site is funded
The site costs money to run, and we may in future earn from sponsored listings or affiliate links to packaging suppliers. If we do, those links will always be marked with an "Ad" label and carry a sponsored link attribute, and pages with them will say so at the top. Payment never buys a positive review or changes what our guides say about a material.
We don't run advertising trackers. We use Google Analytics to see which articles people read, and only after you accept it in the cookie bar. Details are in our privacy note.
Why the domain is ypack.eu
This domain used to host the website of YPACK, an EU-funded research project on PHA-based food packaging that ended in 2021. After the project finished, the domain expired and we registered it. We chose it because our subject is the same one the project worked on, and because many universities and publications still link to it. We think people following those links deserve accurate information on the topic rather than a dead page.
We are not connected with the YPACK consortium or any of its partners. Our independent summary of the project is on About YPACK.
